Dazz: The Firm that Has Wiz Eyeing an Acquisition
Wiz, the darling unicorn of the cybersecurity is making headlines again.
But unlike for previous reasons, like raising US$1bn in funding or declining a US$23bn takeover offer from Google, this one involves a third party.
In a move that could reshape the cybersecurity landscape, Wiz is exploring the acquisition of Israeli cybersecurity company Dazz.
This potential deal comes at a time when the cybersecurity sector is experiencing rapid growth and consolidation, driven by the increasing complexity of digital threats and the shift towards cloud-based operations.
But who is Dazz, the company that has the attention of one of the world’s most exciting cybersecurity risers in a potential US$500m purchase.
A rising star in cybersecurity
Founded in 2021 by Merav Bahat, Tomer Schwartz, and Yuval Ofir, Dazz has quickly established itself as a formidable player in the Application Security Posture Management (ASPM) and Continuous Threat and Exposure Management (CTEM) spaces.
Dazz's meteoric rise in the cybersecurity sector is evidenced by its recent US$50m funding round, which valued the company at approximately US$400m. This latest investment, brings Dazz's total funding to an impressive US$105m.
The company's success is rooted in its unified remediation platform, which provides comprehensive visibility across various detection tools and environments.
By correlating data from code repositories, cloud infrastructures, and security tools, Dazz offers a solution that significantly reduces the Mean Time to Remediate (MTTR) for its clients.
Dazz's performance has been nothing short of remarkable. The company reported a 400% increase in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) between 2023 and 2024, while simultaneously tripling its salesforce and expanding its footprint across the United States, Europe, and Israel.
Merav’s experience as Deputy CEO at Microsoft's Israel R&D Centre. Merav’s expertise in cloud security, gained during her time as General Manager in Microsoft's cloud security division, has been instrumental in shaping Dazz's strategic direction.
Joining Merav in the leadership team are CTO Tomer and VP of R&D Yuval. Tomer, who headed Microsoft's Security Response Center in Israel, brings a wealth of experience from his time at Armis Security and Adallom. Yuval, a former commander in the elite 8200 unit, previously served as VP of R&D at Claroty.
Importance of an acquisition
The possible acquisition of Dazz by Wiz is more than just a business transaction; it represents a strategic move in the evolving cybersecurity landscape.
As organisations continue to grapple with the complexities of cloud security and an expanding threat landscape, the combination of Wiz's market presence and Dazz's innovative remediation platform could create a powerhouse in the industry.
Dazz's technology, which bridges the gap between security alerts and effective remediation, aligns well with the needs of modern, cloud-native organisations.
By potentially incorporating Dazz's capabilities, Wiz could enhance its offering, providing a more comprehensive solution that addresses not just threat detection but also efficient remediation.
An upgraded cybersphere
As the cybersecurity sector continues to evolve, deals like the potential Wiz-Dazz acquisition highlight the industry's drive towards more integrated, AI-driven solutions.
While the deal is still in the exploratory phase, as threats become more sophisticated and the stakes continue to rise, the industry will be watching closely to see how this potential merger could shape the future of digital security.
