Both tech giants seek to help clients simplify and modernise their cybersecurity operations and manage and protect their hybrid cloud identities

Whilst businesses continue to embrace hybrid cloud and AI developments, there is the issue of protecting valuable data.

As a result, companies are scrambling to assess their security capabilities and if they are advanced enough to battle against rising cyberattacks.

As a result, IBM Consulting is combining its industry-leading cybersecurity services with Microsoft’s security technology portfolio to help businesses modernise their end-to-end security operations. By providing tools and expertise, both companies are also eager to harness the cloud to protect data and ultimately drive business growth.

IBM Consulting has partnered with Microsoft for several years, prioritising the development and delivery of enterprise-leading digital solutions. This latest iteration aims to successfully navigate an increasingly complex digital landscape that needs to prioritise cybersecurity as a matter of urgency.

“Security can no longer be an afterthought – it must be a foundational part of every organisation's core operations,” comments Mark Hughes, Global Managing Partner of Cybersecurity Services at IBM Consulting. “Our collaboration with Microsoft provides clients with a simplified, efficient and cost-effective approach to protect cloud workloads and effectively manage the proliferation of threats organisations confront on a regular basis.”

A pledge to modernise business security operations

IBM's Threat Detection and Response (TDR) Cloud Native service is designed to bring together Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender XDR and Microsoft Defender for Cloud with AI-powered security technologies to help accelerate threat detection and response for clients.

As part of its offering, IBM Consulting's global team of security analysts provide 24/7 monitoring and investigation of security alerts across the hybrid cloud environments of its clients. The services can also help businesses improve security operations to maximise the value of Microsoft's end-to-end security solutions, according to IBM.

The TDR Cloud Native service leverages the full range of Microsoft’s security portfolio and can protect Microsoft cloud environments for clients.

This comes at a pivotal time for companies. Whilst new disruptive technologies hold great potential to revolutionise key industries, recent studies have shown that workforces are struggling with its implementation. With significant knowledge gaps, businesses could experience implications such as compliance, legal issues and ethical considerations.

“As digital transformation accelerates across every industry, organisations require a comprehensive, unified approach to cloud security that protects their entire enterprise from the chip to the cloud,” says Alym Rayani, VP Security Marketing at Microsoft. “Our partnership with IBM Consulting makes it easier for clients to securely harness the power of the cloud and AI to drive business innovation.”

Managing cloud identities

Cloud identity is fast-becoming an increasingly important area of an organisation’s cybersecurity strategy, but this is complicated by the wide range of tools and services available.

Globally, threats to cloud security are continuing to rise, as attackers are increasingly targeting weaknesses in cloud accounts to access sensitive data. As these vulnerabilities rise, it stresses the need for businesses to strengthen their systems.

In response, the IBM Consulting and Microsoft partnership is designed to protect an organisation’s cloud journey, in addition to optimising the identity landscape. The goal is to offer a more optimised, cost-effective and secure service for clients moving forward.

The collaboration also builds on the company’s long history of developing enterprise-class security solutions, as they co-invest in joint go-to-market initiatives and reskilling programmes to support the new offerings and help clients bring security to the forefront of their cloud and AI journeys.

For instance, IBM Consulting’s 1,300 Microsoft-certified security practitioners have been trained on embedding Microsoft security tools within complex cloud environments.
