Noga Sharabani, Director of Global Procurement at Claroty, explains why procurement needs to be a strong voice in any business

Noga Sharabani, the Director of Global Procurement at Claroty, always emphasises the importance of placing procurement at the forefront of both business and technology strategies.

Claroty's primary mission is to safeguard the cyber-physical systems (CPS) that underpin critical infrastructure operations across a wide range of sectors, including oil pipelines, healthcare facilities, power grids, water utilities, and other vital services.

Noga Sharabani's journey into the procurement sector initially began as a measure to address a different type of threat. Back in 1999, while working in a bank and pursuing a Master's degree in Marketing & Finance, she was approached by a friend working in a high-tech company. The company needed someone to join their procurement team temporarily to oversee supplier compliance for the Y2K bug.

As the Y2K period concluded in 2001, Sharabani was offered a role as a direct buyer, which marked the beginning of her extensive learning about the world of procurement. Over the course of almost 25 years, she has become a strong advocate for elevating procurement operations to a prominent position within businesses, forming a vital part of organisations' strategic planning. Her commitment to this vision has driven her efforts at Claroty, where she established its procurement operation in 2020.

Prior to her tenure at Claroty, Sharabani transitioned from her banking career to embrace procurement at Gilat Satellite Networks. The move to Claroty provided her with an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth strategy of a young cyber company, something she found both rewarding and fulfilling.

“Besides the joy of raising my five children, I wake up each morning eager to learn something new and experience the impact it has on procurement,” she says. “I actively engage in professional networks, participate in continuous learning opportunities, and find inspiration in podcasts and webinars. It's incredibly exciting to witness how AI, for example, can elevate the field of procurement.

“My advice to professionals aspiring to excel in procurement is to never stop learning and to embrace change,” she advises. “The procurement landscape is constantly evolving due to technological advancements, changing market dynamics, and global challenges we have experienced over the past two years. By staying adaptable and continuously improving, one can thrive in this dynamic field.”

In her 25-year career in procurement, Sharabani has seen significant technological advancements that have fundamentally changed and transformed the way business is conducted, and it both excites and motivates her to stay updated on emerging technologies, trends and best practices.

She also emphasises the importance of having strong partnerships, not only in business but in one’s personal life as well. “If it hadn't been for the unwavering support from my husband and family, I wouldn't have been able to achieve the level of success I have had in my career,” she adds. “Balancing family responsibilities with our careers requires significant effort, but having a supportive partner like him has been a blessing. It taught me that with the right partner by your side, there is nothing you cannot achieve.”
