Vodafone & Google Cloud: Securing SMEs from Cyber Threats

Vodafone Business and Google Cloud have combined their capabilities to deliver cybersecurity and agentic AI tools to small and medium sized enterprises.
The collaboration forms part of a US$1bn strategic agreement signed by the two companies in 2024 for a ten-year period.
Vodafone serves 360 million customers across 15 countries and Google Cloud provides an AI stack and Gemini models to help organisations in 200 territories prepare for the agentic era.
The partnership aims to accelerate digital transformation for millions of customers across Europe.
This could be achieved by combining Vodafone's European and African reach with Google Cloud's AI and security platforms.
AI agent for business operations
Vodafone Business AI Concierge was developed with Google Gemini.
The system will be built on Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform and Gemini models.
The AI Concierge operates as a multi-modal AI agent that includes voice and data capabilities.
By using Vodafone's low latency connectivity, the system engages with customers, answers inquiries and books appointments around the clock.
The AI Concierge will launch first in Germany and Greece.
The system handles repetitive tasks outside of standard operating hours to ensure business owners do not miss leads.
Fanan Henriques, Product and International Business Director at Vodafone Business, says: "Vodafone Business is helping millions of SMEs unlock the power of AI without the complexity or risk.
"By combining our network and support with Google Cloud's AI expertise, we're making advanced, secure AI practical for everyday business use – starting with innovations like AI Concierge, one of the first telephony integrations with Gemini."
Managed detection and response service
The partnership has introduced a managed detection and response service to address cyber threats facing smaller businesses. The service was enabled by Google Security Operations.
The solution combines Google's global security analytics and AI-driven threat intelligence.
This provides SMEs with real time threat intelligence and analytics capabilities.
The MDR service will launch first in Germany to meet the region's data protection standards.
The service will expand across Europe later this year.
Oliver Parker, Vice President of Global Generative AI at Google Cloud, says: "By combining our Gemini models and enterprise-grade security expertise with Vodafone's deep connectivity and customer reach, we are giving SMEs the tools they need to stay protected and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape."
According to Oliver, small businesses form the backbone of the global economy. He notes they remain underserved when it comes to cutting edge technology.
The MDR service could help smaller businesses defend against cyber threats, which have become more sophisticated and frequent.
