In the midst of hybrid working difficulties, Check Point has acquired Perimeter 81 to accelerate secure access solutions and counteract cyber threats

Leading provider of global cybersecurity solutions company Check Point has acquired cybersecurity start-up Perimeter 81 for US$490m.

It is the hope that, with this acquisition, Check Point will help organisations to further accelerate the adoption of secure access across remote users, sites, cloud, data centres and the internet - all while hoping to deliver secure and fast security service edge (SSE) solutions.

With increased hybrid working across the world in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, plenty of cybersecurity challenges are presented that inevitably impact remote working. In order to combat more sophisticated and frequent cyberattacks, it is important to see businesses working to mitigate risk.

Working to ensure safer cyber networks

Check Point aims to leverage Perimeter 81s capabilities and integrate them into Check Point Infinity’s architecture. The aim is to deliver a unified security solution across the network, cloud and remote users that is powered by industry leading threat prevention.

In the company’s view, Perimeter 81 is ideally positioned to support its vision of delivering the industry’s fastest, most secure Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution.

Recent research has found that scams of all types are continuing to increase and now accounting for over three-quarters of all detections globally. Despite increasingly strict cybersecurity regulations and fines, limited data security is putting the data of millions of individuals at risk - at significant cost to organisations.

Consolidated solution options are often viewed as making cybersecurity processes more efficient for workforces to detect bad activity, as well as reducing cost to organisations.

Perimeter 81 is a start-up cloud and network security company that develops secure remote networks based on the zero trust architecture. Its technology aims to replace legacy security appliances like VPNs and firewalls.

Having launched in 2018, the company now serves more than 3000 customers worldwide and prides itself on an innovative approach to SSE that combines cloud and on-device protection. It also enables a simple and fast one-hour deployment as opposed to the weeks that traditional solutions - emphasising ease-of-use and streamlined management.

“This strategic move marks an exciting period for our company, partners, and customers. By joining Check Point, a global leader in cyber security for over 30 years, we aim to deliver the premier SASE platform in the market,” says Amit Bareket, CEO at Perimeter 81.

“Our interconnection represents a significant step towards a comprehensive and scalable security for the modern era. We look forward to the positive impact we will jointly create.”

It is expected that the acquisition of Perimeter 81 will be closed towards the end of 2023.
