Arctic Wolf Completes Acquisition of Blackberry's Cylance

Arctic Wolf has completed the acquisition of Blackberry’s Cylance endpoint security assets, an advanced AI-based endpoint protection solution that helps protect enterprise networks from advanced threats.
The two organisations previously announced a definitive agreement for the acquisition in December, setting out how the deal would enable Arctic Wolf to bolster its position as a market-leading platform and meet growing enterprise customer demand for endpoint-to-edge security platforms.
Arctic Wolf will incorporate Cylance’s endpoint security capabilities into its open-XDR Aurora platform, which combines advanced threat detection with automated response capabilities to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities.
Speaking in December, Arctic Wolf President and CEO Nick Schneider said the acquisition will help the global leader in security operations to "rapidly eliminate alert fatigue, reduce total risk exposure, and help customers unlock further value.”
Blackberry’s CEO John Giamatteo announced the completion of the sale, calling it a win-win for all stakeholders. He explained: “Blackberry has reached yet another milestone on its transformational journey.
“Our customers and partners will continue to benefit from the continuity of service provided by a global cybersecurity leader,” Giametteo added. “Arctic Wolf benefits by incorporating Cylance’s advanced, AI-based endpoint protection into its open-XDR platform. And, as Arctic Wolf leverages its scale to continue to grow the Cylance business, BlackBerry will benefit as a reseller of the technology to our large government customers, and as a shareholder in a dynamic and growing company.”
How Cylance protects the enterprise
Cylance leverages AI to protect enterprise networks from advanced threats. Unlike traditional security tools, it uses machine learning algorithms to predict and prevent attacks before they occur, offering a proactive defence mechanism.
Adopting this AI-driven approach, Cylance helps organisations to reduce the complexity and cost of managing multiple security layers while also improving threat detection. Because it provides real-time protection across endpoints, enterprises can better safeguard their critical data and assets, ensuring a scalable and more robust solution to mitigate ever-evolving cybersecurity risks.
Discussing the acquisition, Schneider said it is “not just about expanding our capabilities – it’s about redefining what’s possible in cybersecurity.”
Cylance will be integrated into Arctic Wolf’s Aurora platform and be brought to market as Aurora Endpoint Security. The Aurora platform is a managed security solution that provides advanced threat detection, response, and prevention for endpoint protection using AI-driven analytics.
Schneider explained: “By integrating Cylance’s advanced AI-driven capabilities into the Aurora Platform, and combined with the expertise of one of the world’s largest commercial Security Operations Centres (SOCs), Arctic Wolf’s Aurora Endpoint Security offerings help organisations reduce risk exposure with better prevention and threat detection, eliminate alert fatigue and false positives, and build stronger, more resilient defences.”
Aurora Endpoint Security
According to Arctic Wolf, 95% of investigations conducted by its SOC include telemetry from endpoints, making it a crucial area to protect.
By incorporating Cylance into Aurora Endpoint Security the company will become the first cybersecurity platform to approach the endpoint security market from a Security Pperations perspective. It says the approach will deliver world-class protection at an unmatched price-to-performance ratio.
Aurora Endpoint Security is Arctic Wolf’s portfolio of advanced endpoint protection solutions, designed to extend AI-driven prevention and detection capabilities directly to the endpoint. Seamlessly integrated into the Arctic Wolf Aurora Platform, Aurora Endpoint Security leverages insights from over 10,000 customers and more than 7 trillion security observations weekly to address advanced and emerging threats. Aurora Endpoint Security includes four solutions tailored to meet diverse customer needs: Aurora Protect, Aurora Endpoint Defence, Aurora Managed Endpoint Defence On-Demand, and Aurora Managed Endpoint Defence.
Outlining its commitment to customers and partners, Arctic Wolf said its ongoing goal is to deliver a full-scale solution that unifies Security Operations with a truly open platform, enhances threat protection with state-of-the-art endpoint security and ensures outcomes with its concierge experience and security journey programmes.
