As our Cyber LIVE event approaches, we take a look at the keynote speakers and companies joining us, starting with Lesley Kipling

A global tech giant, Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975, and is best known for its software products, including Microsoft Windows operating systems, the Microsoft Office suite, and the Internet Explorer web browser.

Earlier this year, Microsoft completed its US$19.7bn acquisition of conversational artificial intelligence (AI) expert Nuance Communications. With the acquisition, which is Microsoft's largest since it bought LinkedIn for US$26.2bn in 2016, the company aims to expand its cloud services for healthcare.

Other important acquisitions over the years have been Hotmail in 1997, Skype in 2011, and nearly 10 acquisitions in 2020 alone. In 2021, Microsoft acquired The Marsden Group, a tech company specialising in industrial environments. Microsoft teamed up with Goldman Sachs and Accenture in 2021 also, to develop and share ways to build software that produces fewer carbon emissions when run in data centres as part of a push to combat the effects of climate change.
