Fortinet has released its 2024 Sustainability Report
Fortinet demonstrates commitment to climate goals and cybersecurity skills development while improving product efficiency

Fortinet has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the company’s progress on sustainability initiatives over the past year and outlines how the cybersecurity firm is addressing environmental impacts, cybersecurity education and responsible business practices.

The report comes as digital transformation continues to accelerate across industries, making cybersecurity more essential to protecting businesses and the global economy.

Fortinet Product Innovation and Climate Commitments Show Measurable Results

Fortinet reports holding nearly 1,400 patents with more than 450 pending, and has established collaborations with organisations such as University of California Berkeley, the World Economic Forum and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to advance AI applications in cybersecurity.

In 2024, Fortinet became an early signatory of CISA’s Secure by Design pledge, which commits the company to incorporating security measures throughout the product lifecycle.

The report details how Fortinet has deepened its engagement with global organisations working to combat cybercrime. The company supported major initiatives including INTERPOL’s Operation Serengeti and the World Economic Forum Cybercrime Atlas Project. These collaborative efforts contributed to over 1,000 arrests, the dismantling of 134,000 malicious networks and the recovery of US$44m.

On the environmental front, the Science Based Targets initiative validated Fortinet's greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in 2024. These targets address scopes 1 and 2 emissions in alignment with a 1.5°C trajectory to limit global warming, as well as scope 3 targets focused on supplier and customer engagement.

Product efficiency improvements feature prominently in the report. In 2024, Fortinet introduced new FortiGate models that are 61% more energy efficient than previous generations on average. The company also expanded sustainable packaging efforts by launching 22 FSC-certified packaging models and prioritising plastic-free packaging across 86 top-selling products, avoiding 387 metric tonnes of CO2e emissions, including 77 metric tonnes of plastic reduction.

Fortinet Training Institute Makes Progress Towards Cybersecurity Education Objectives

The report highlights progress in addressing the cybersecurity skills gap through the Fortinet Training Institute. Since 2022, the company has trained more than 630,000 individuals in cybersecurity, moving towards its goal of training 1 million individuals by 2026.

In 2024, Fortinet joined the European Commission's Cybersecurity Skills Academy, with a commitment to train 75,000 people in the EU by 2027. The company also contributed to the World Economic Forum’s 2024 Strategic Cybersecurity Talent Framework, helping to shape global practices for cybersecurity talent development.

The report notes that Fortinet has strengthened its business ethics and information security practices. In 2024, 100% of the company’s top contract manufacturers (covering 90% of spend) and distributors completed business ethics and compliance training. Fortinet expanded its ISO 27001/17/18 certifications and SOC2 Type II examinations, achieving 81 information security certifications and examinations to strengthen data protection and privacy measures.

Fortinet’s sustainability efforts have received recognition through industry accolades, including inclusion in the 2024 Dow Jones Best-in-Class World and North America Indices for the third consecutive year, an improved CDP Climate Change rating (moving from a B- to a B score), recognition as a 2024 “Best Company to Work For” by Glassdoor and a “Great Place to Work,” and being recognised as seventh on Forbes’ Most Trusted Companies in America 2025 list.
